Mathematical Alice

I plan on doing my paper on the mathematical side of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. I am really interested to get into this topic. I'm really good at math and I can catch patterns rather easily, though I didn't really catch any mathematical patterns in Alice. I am very curious to find out what Carroll has hidden in this book. I plan on purchasing the book Lewis Carroll in Numberland because even if I do not chose to do this topic after all I feel that it will be an interesting book to read non-the-less. 

Alchemist

I feel like this story is much like Alice's. It seems like a dream to me. People seem to appear without notice and have special powers. There are just many odd things in this book that make me think that it may be his dream, like the colored rocks. One thing I do not understand though is why the Shepherd would wish to follow his "dream" dream instead of following his living dream to be with the Merchant's daughter. I hope to find some more answer as I continue to read.

Burton vs. Carroll

The views of these two different men are shown in the way the described and displayed the characters of the Hatter, the Door Mouse, the March Hare, and the Cheshire Cat. I feel that the Hatter Tim Burton portrayed is vastly different than Carroll's Hatter. The movie Hatter immediately recognizes Alice and is nothing but kind to her where Carroll's version is cold and harsh to Alice.  The exact opposite can be sad for Door Mouse. Burton's mouse was cruel and spiteful upfront while Carroll's was lazy and careless. The March Hare is very similar in both Carroll's book and Burton's movie. The Hare is completely crazy and paranoid. The Cheshire Cat, my personal favorite, is portrayed similarly in both but I really like Burton's version. Burton's Cheshire is so cool, collected, and smooth. Where Carroll's seems a bit jumpy and skidish to me.  Overall I would have to say I like Burton's influence in this movie.

Mad? Not I

Who is this "girl," as she calls herself, who dares to show up to tea  uninvited? Alice? What is an Alice? She does not know why a raven is like a writing desk and she asks too many questions. She is so easily angry. I do not enjoy her company and I will not be friendly. I am done I have no more to say to this girl and I will not waste my time on such.

Victorian Era

Facebook, cell phones, television, and ipods, among others, are all things used for entertainment in the 21st century. Entertainment in the Victorian Era, on the other hand was much more simple. If you're thinking brick phones with no texting and black and white tvs you're still way off. Awful as it may sound to the kids that have grown  up in the 20th and 21st centuries there was no internet or televisions and the telephone was just coming into existence.
What did everyone do with their free time? There were many things to do! People spent their time reading, yes actually reading books, and attending the theatre and the arts. Music, dramas, and operas were commonly attending by people in this era. People were even interested in things that people today are interested in. Shows of hypnotism and communication with the dead were a hit back. All in all Victorian Era entertainment isn't all that different from our entertainment, it is just produced and gathered in much more simple forms.

My First Blog

I would have to say my favorite book is Smack by Melvin Burgess. I came across this book when my best friend was reading it on the plane on our way to Europe. I love this book because it is so real and extremely raw.
